MTPCA Conference Call Minutes, 12/4/13

Board Members present:

Business:
• Dennis and Melinda Cronk resign as convention coordinators
o Will continue to help through transition period, as well as Defend the Hunt

• Auction on MTPCA Facebook?
o Al Schroeder won something on Trapperman auction
o Wants to donate it back and do an auction on our Facebook page, include other items
o Thinks it would be a good fundraiser for us and Defend the Hunt
 Around 800 people on site
o Doesn’t want to “step on our toes” and wants approval
o Work with Jon Southworth on getting this going
o Make an auction Facebook page?
• Motion by Dennis Cronk
o Make an MTPCA official auction page, allow to go for 3 months (Al Schroeder is lead moderator; assign assistant mods as necessary), if successful, assign small budget to and board will take over
• Second by John Caretti
• Guidelines to throw problem people out?
o Dale: wants Al to come up with list of criteria for banning people
o Dave Pierce: develop rules over 3 month trial period?
o Matt: talk to other organizations about their rules?
 Al: tries to follow general MTPCA guidelines, hasn’t had too many problems, but will
o Caretti: consult Trapperman rules
• Motion carried unanimously
Hide Project
• Drew contacted 6 clubs
o 6 largest clubs all have under 150 hides
• Dennis’s 17 clubs
• 3 have around 100
• Expects to average around 100 at each by end of month
• Estimates 3,000 hides total
• Need to continue trying to contact deer processors to donate hides
• No one needs any materials

Fur Project
• No updates
• Chris Elie: NAFA
• Dale: FHA
• There will be a bag on the trucks that people can separate fur into
• Caretti: bags at auctions?
o Dale: we can give people option to send to NAFA/FHA or sell at auctions
 Caretti: association lot number?
o Matt: thinks it is unfair to keep hides from buyers at auctions
o Dennis: fur buyers aren’t being that helpful to us, so should we accommodate them?
o Dave: this is how these guys make a living, and we can’t force them to donate
 We don’t want to deter our buyers from the sale

o All fur donated at sales will be run across the table

• Jay’s fur sale: 90 lot numbers
o Dale will tell store manager we may run late so we can have people at the door

Signature collection
• Info can be downloaded from Citizens for Professional Wildlife Management website
o citizenswildlife.org or citizenswildlife.com
• CANNOT use downloaded signature card
• Info sessions
o December 14: UP
o December 12: Oakland County Sportsmans Club
o December 7: MUCC board meeting
o December 9: Chelsea Rod & Gun Club (tentative)
o One in Gaylord, no date yet
• Need to encourage people to attend
o Facebook page
• Signature cards will be out by Thursday or Friday
o 10 signatures per sheet
• Dennis will head SE Michigan in planning signature gathering
o Need name and phone number of signature collectors
o Will have more information after Saturday about collecting signatures
• Caretti: how long do we have to gather signatures?
o Dale: 6 months
o Schippa: need by May or June
• Sheets need to be turned in weekly so we can know in January if we have to hire someone to help us collect
o Accurate ongoing count is important
• Steering committee will delegate large stores out to different groups to solicit signature collection
o Dale picked up Jay’s for us
o Dale will be talking to owner about this
• How to reach out to members?
o People at info sections will get all materials
o Need board members in different regions to reach out to their members
o Put out another Trapline, address signature collection, assign contact person for materials/instruction
• Dale will have more information by the 14th
• Dennis: utilize social media to reach out to people!
• Need to have petitions spread out throughout state
• Consider association paying some postage?
o Mail in a flat rate box?
• Need people to reach out to members

Bob Noonan’s request
• Needs to know before 14th
• Guaranteed that he will not give out information to anyone
• Motion by Southworth
o Go ahead and give out member lists to Bob Noonan
• Second by Schippa
• Caretti: Destroy list after use?
• Motion carried unanimously

• $16 for box of 35 magazines, free for youth
o Trapper Ed? Sales? Shows?
• Motion by Caretti
o Get 3 youth for Trapper Ed only, purchase 10 regular for shows
• Second by Melinda Cronk
• Motion carried unanimously
